TW6: Stars

ever since i came here i keep having weird dreams.

like the night b4 i met YCL at taipei,

i dreamt of myself filming an MV with Ella, and i became her rumoured boyfriend, then when gou zai tried to take our photoes, she said 'nvm, let them take!' and purposely pose an intimate pose for them.

then a few days back i dreamt of going for yanzi's concert right in front of her house, and halfway through the concert she saw me and invited me for dinner inside her house together with a few people and she paused the concert just to have dinner.

and yesterday i dream of yang jing hua of 败犬女王 having the same chinese class as us here, and halfway during the lesson i got her autograph in one of my notebooks but i was too shy to approach her for a photo. she was quite friendly in the class, then a few days later i approached her after class when some of the students left for a photo and she agreed and i was so happy. hahaha

mayb i think too much.

anyway i met up with andrea, who came all the way down from taichung. she's studying in a uni there but came down to visit her aunt and take some stuff frm her.
soooooo nice to meet a familiar face here!!!!!!!!!!!!!! phewwwwwwwwwww
wad a break from all the awkwardness!

and we ate a lot of stuff like at the mexican restaurant

and the super duper nice italian restaurant today. and i bot A LOT of stuff from her recommendations and doubled the no. of stuff i bot frm these few weeks.

i miss a lot of friends and the convenience of home! i wished that my friends were here travelling with me instead of these... erm... alternate species.
i'm so glad i dun haf female friends who are like them, and i really regret not asking my friends to sign up with me.

it's all about the gender problem. or mayb i've lost my connection sense with females after being in NS for 2 years and ntu engine for 1 year. i think my patience haf been shortened a lot, dunno why. mayb coz i'm travelling or mayb coz of army.

well, recession has caught up on my side, i was actually thinking of GIP-ing or INSTEP-ing (spells: exchange) at US for 6 months after this GSS thingy, well.. there's always the financial loan from school.

i can really get some help with english right now. i'm like caught in between the 2 languages, i can't speak either properly now. so confused.

and i've bot stuff from american eagle through a spree. shopping in american online shops while in taiwan. ha.

btw anybody wans anything from here, feel free to sms to my singapore hp no, or tag in my board, or leave me a msg in facebook. 3 more weeks b4 i reach singapore, i really must cherish my time here!

TW4: How I Met Yang Chen Ling

ok i know it's everywhere but i just wanna record it down on my blog. haha it deserves an entry by itself.

Date: 5th June 2009, Friday
Time: Evening 6pm.

I was shopping on my own along the main road of Zhong Xiao Dong Lu 忠孝东路, when i came to an ulu lane and saw a havianas shop just down the lane. Thinking of finding different flip-flops from singapore, i went down the lane when there are 2 people, one male one female, walking towards me.

the girl was saying: 啊我们往左转还是往右转?

at that time i was thinking, why does all tai-meis sound like Jiang Xiao Hua?!
and i haven really seen a pretty Tai-mei here, i saw the female is quite pretty and i was thinking of taking a picture with her to show my friends.

i was too late when they walk past me, then i suddenly realise she looked really like yang chen ling.
can it be such a coincidence!??!!
so i turned around and stalked her, and spotted her famous right cheek mole.
IT IS REALLY HER!! and her manager, i suppose.

i hesitated and went into the havainas shop to hide, still recovering from the surprise and many thoughts came to my mind.
She stopped at the traffic junction, waiting for the pedestrian lights to turn green.
No time to waste, i quickly approached her.

Me: 不好意思,我可以跟你合照吗?

YCL looks at me, and turns to look at her manager.

Manager: er..不好意思, 不方便类..

Me (with the disappointed look): 哦真的..

I turned to look at her, and she lifted her right hand, palms open and i was thinking what is she doing? Is she going to take a photo with my camera?

Manager:可是你可以跟她握个手啊!

then i realise she is preparing for the handshake.

She smiled, and WE SHOOK HANDS!!
her hands were quite small and cold.

Me: 我从新加坡来的.

YCL: 哦!我会去新加坡!

Me: 真的!

YCL: 八月!

she showed her 8 fingers.

Manager: 到时候可以找她!

Me: 好期待你来!谢谢!

YCL and Manager: 谢谢!

She had long hair, mild make-up, and wore a off-white dress and heels, as if going for some function.
She looks even prettier in person, and her voice sounds the same.

similar to that time i met yanzi,
handshake and chatting and no pictures!
It made my Taiwan trip worthwhile!

and special thanks to the golden mouth, Ms Ip Waiyin, who posted this on my facebook wall:

TW3: Language and shopping

After being here for some time, i've observed the only difference between taiwan and US is the language.

Both have so much in common,

1. place
no HDBs, mostly shophouses, not much high rise buildings except in the city area.
dirty streets, air pollution due to cars and motobikes, dangerous traffic and both have totally yellow cabs!
not forgetting neon signboards and nice large posters all over the place.

1. people.
The locals are just so ever friendly and chatty, even if they are strangers, and specially friendly to foreigners.

Service line or Sales help their customer to the max and they greet every customer that passes by the shop, even if u'r not buying anything after trying their stuff they'll still smile and thank you for shopping.
One of the reasons i dun like to shop in singapore. Our service is rock bottom compared to them.

2. language culture
Both have common language, that is everyone in the country knows how to communicate well in their local language. although limited to one language, at least they can speak and write well and everyone understand each other without a barrier.
Well, it's good that we'r educated in both languages, but are we good in both languages?!

My tutee can speak but can't write in chinese. Nor he is good in English. then what else can he use to communicate?!? On the surface it doesn't seem like a flaw in the education system, it is just not effective. they can't separate both languages in their speeches.

Even in university level, we can't speak nor write both languages as well as those natives in college level. How about other students of other races? do they know their mother tongue as well as those in their native countries?
Singaporeans mix english and chinese together to become Singlish, i'm afraid that is only limited to Singapore the tiny island.

i have a sudden impulse to fly to US immediately after staying in taiwan for some time. not that i'm not used to the food here, the food is great. It's actually the language and shopping.
While learning chinese here, i am actually used to writing so much in english i have to translate most of the things from english to chinese to form sentences. Learning english is much easier! Chinese is so hard to read and write and takes time to understand!

and shopping... hm... for girls it's a cheap heaven, but for guys... i gues nothing much, at least not in kaohsiung, mayb more in taipei. and the fitting and sizing is quite weird for me too, but it's fine for petite asian girls.

i haven bot much clothes since my return last summer, and bot onli one pullover here to prepare for Alishan.
i miss shopping so much that i went online window shopping.. abercrombie.. hollister.. american eagle.. all american apparels. the thing about american clothes, they do not compromise quality. their S size fits just nice on me too! i'm getting my credit card soon and there are summer sale on their websites.. so... hee heee.. thank you friends-in-US-coming-back-to-singapore!

time to welcome new friends into the wardrobe!
