Xmas season

Xmas eve was rachel's surprise bdae party at mc donald's. First time i attended a birthday party at mcd (iirc) and luckily the waitress was funny enough to accommodate us 'kids'.

XMAS IS ANNUAL (not for last year) CHRISTMAS CHOIR (indoor) BBQ! Thanks to songern and his family for preparing the food for us beforehand and booking the pit.

This year was special because of the rain, we had an indoor BBQ so we actually cooked the food on the stove instead. well, his parents did. it was so wonderful.

and WE FINALLY GOT TO CAROL!!

WELCOME BACK CHRISTMAS SPIRIT!

less pear.

Boxing day was meet up with Agnes and PX, and i bought myself a nice sweater which can be used for my US exchange next year. haha.

and till the rest of the year, i'll be on leave! no working till next year!

lemon meringue - fail

First trial lemon meringue pie fail

I just found out the reasons

The container of white powder that usually contained corn flour was replaced by potato flour so i used potato flour instead of corn flour. That explains the meringue and the lemon liquid.

I didn't check the acidity of the lemon curd. It was way too sour for human consumption. Too much lemon juice. check.

i used the wrong kind of eggs. The very small eggs does not contain enough protein in their whites to form stiff peaks when beaten. thats why meringue is so runny.

but the pastry crust was unbelievably a success! Its so nice when eaten on its own and its my first time baking a pie tart pastry.

ok nxt one will be good.

working weekend

I was thinking about work this whole weekend although I did went out for some xmas gift shopping yesterday and supposed to hang out with another group today but it was postponed.

so I got up today to complete some work in the afternoon because i knew it's going to keep running through my mind until I've finished it.

yea I was a little bored today, all my shows like walking dead, gossip girls and glee are on halt because of the holiday season, might as well do some productive stuff like work.

I can foresee myself as a workaholic next time.

Xmas cookies and card

Lionel's wife baked xmas cookies for everyone in the department and Lionel gave me a hand written Xmas card.

THAT IS SO SWEET AND NICE!

Really touched at the fact that my supervisor's wife actually made cookies for me!
and my supervisor gave me a personal xmas card with his well wishes.

In return I bought candy-canes for his family. He said his 4 kids will LOVE them.

I will wish to post a picture of the cookies but i dun think it'll look as good when it comes out of my body.

Intern + Supervisor Xmas Gathering

You know you have to do something when your supervisor mentioned "hey we should have an interns and supervisors gathering" on 3 separate occasions and the Korean boss asked for a xmas gathering.

So, I chaired the event, asked everyone for a free date and send calendar invites to 13 people. Nobody knew who's gonna pay for it because its difficult to split and the 4 interns were prepared to go dutch, or worse still - BUY for our supervisors.

And then judgement day is here.

the afternoon Lionel pulled me into a room to pass me some department xmas gifts.

L: hey so what's the program later?
Me: oh just a simple xmas dinner, are you okay with that?
L: yup i'm fine, but since its an unofficial event you know the company will not be paying right? because every department has their own financials and its difficult.
Me: yup, we know we expected it.
L: or are you all buying?

He must have seen the look on my face the split second i hear that. I swallowed.

Me: Er.... we don't mind la.

Game Over.
Well done, myself.
Now i think of it, i should have said something like...Good idea, should we? or we'll leave it to another day? or i hafta ask the other interns first.

so i went back to announce it to my other 3 supposedly-good-intern-friends and they thanked me. Thank you, in our intern terms means thanks for paying. I was so stressed up the entire afternoon i couldn't do any work. I have already made reservation at Brotziet, a german bar and restaurant with mains starting at $20 and beers starting $10.

1 intern + 1 supervisor = $80
1 intern + 2 supervisors = $120
13 people = $450

i got ready my gloves to wash the dishes after the dinner. Nearing the dinner time, the korean boss came over and i was a little bit relieved that he was going. Well he's the one with the corporate credit card.

Fast-forward, I was thinking, heck! just have fun first and stress later. I was in my natural high because I was chairing the event. K boss ordered everything and we all had beer. Pork knuckle, sausages, seafood appetizers and beer. Super wonderful and sinful combination, but it was really worth it. SO GOOD. The company was exceptional, a lot of laughing and interacting.

ok i said i will never drink in my life but alcohol is never unavoidable, especially after work and exceptionally especially with a korean boss. Once your glass is empty, another glass automatically comes up at his order.

My body system is very sensitive. Not having touched alcohol for a long time, i feel the maximum effect of the alcohol. I wasn't drunk, it was only beer, just high and babbering almost non-stop at the table (i think). Its not over the edge, just taking more than usual.

The bill came, magic dusts and fireworks appeared on my mind when O KOREAN MIGHTY ONE whipped out the credit card which shone like a golden sun over the horizon and hand it to the waitress.

I am so glad everything worked out in the end and everything went smoothly. Except for the fact that my corner of the table didn't have much to eat and went home feeling a bit hungry.

and another thing. I'm feeling the effects of talking too much then. I wanna take back some of the things i said, like how i have a lot of free time or how i wanna join the company, because my supervisor just opened the flood gates of work.

Customer visit

well, i really dun have anything to say after meeting the customer, its kinda boring for me while both of them do their magic talking.

and then after they asked me how was the visit, I really don't feel anything. Mayb i was expecting a bit more or issit because of a culture shock.

it kinda opened another world to me when i know what Lionel's doing. He's really the expert, the pro, the everything who is good at talking and moving on to our objectives smoothly without the customer or me realising it.

Seriously he is the expert to learn from. I have infinite to learn from him.

prof visit

So my prof texted me at 3pm asking me if he can visit at 5pm. what else can I say?

I think it was my first important exam-like event for this semester, i was a nervewrack. I can't concentrate in work after the message and thought he was a scary guy, but he turns out to be a very serious person with a kind character!

i wonder what Lionel and him talked about in the room for so long while i was waiting outside.

well, I have no worries coz Lionel is the best supervisor an intern can get.

and i wonder whats in that envelop that Lionel passed to him after my interview. Might be some voucher or something for the visiting prof as a gift. even the visiting prof have a gift. I bet visiting friends have door gifts too.

and then I met huiting for dinner! yay!

anyway I'm gonna meet a big customer tmr and i'm really excited!

EM DnD pictures

Here are my DnD pictures!

The theme was masquerade, we went as pirates coz we interpreted the mask as our eye masks and pirates are in the victorian era too. My idea. heh.

Anyway the costumes were rented for $50. Good thing we went to Lynn's house to change first and she drove us to Marina Oriental.

Mi and Cindy

Our table!

This is the Korean boss, aka my future F-I-L, who forced us to tattoo our faces with the same flower as him. He likes me very much.
Bonus points added for me!

Oh anyway he came as a genie which is so cool! and won one of the best dressed. He took out his hat and mask in this picture thou..

This is Lionel my supervisor and my idol (Story for another day).
Many people say we look alike. I look like a younger version of him and he looks like an older version of me.
He haven wore this bow and tux since his wedding like 10 years ago. heh.

I won a $60 Haagen Daz voucher, and a set of portable chargers.

The first few prizes for lucky draw were ultimate good. Mac book air... Ipad... Xbox... Dyson air multiplier... $750 Marina bay sands voucher... 2 night spa and stay at Banyan Tree... so on.

It was super fun and entertaining and full.

interns BBQ

Did i mention i love to BBQ?

the exhilarating effect of starting the fire
the heat of dancing flames
the sizzling of first trials
the excitement of food getting burnt

and of course, the friendship bonding!!!!!!

last saturday was my first BBQ of the year (if i remember correctly) with my fellow interns and scruffy the dog.

The food was catered and the chicken wings were best ever. very well marinated and fully cooked. We had tiger prawns (my fav), shitake mushrooms, hotdogs, chicken chops, bacon, otah and mashmellows!

it was one of the perfect BBQ where there were minimal leftovers and well cooked food and great fun even though we had 7 people and the place had mosquitoes at night.

and then we went Lynn's house to play wii till 3am. ha

Annual Choir Xmas BBQ is up next!! YAY

Company Perks

HALO WORLD I'M BACK IN ACTION!!

I have finally finished my last hurdle of internship: the report and logbook. Report is done while logbook is 99% done while the due date is next week.

I'm also extending my intern till mid jan (i think) and then school will rock and roll.

My company has been treating me very well thank you, my supervisor is my idol, and i have received many perks like....

$100 shopping vouchers after winning something at an event
$60 Haagen Daz vouchers after winning it at DnD
$30 popular vouchers for completing the attachment
$20 starbucks card as a doorgift for an event
and i have tonnes of chocolates at my desk after winning at my team bonding event

Right now I really have no idea how to spend them. Haagan Daz is ok, but i dun really buy books at popular and i don't drink coffee. oh wells, at least they do not expire within these few months so i can take my time to think how to spend them.

AND THEN there are the company lunch and dinner treats

The DnD at marina oriental,
the other day my supervisor treated me to carl's junior for lunch
the next day my event committee treated us to dian xiao er with 2 herbal ducks and we only had 4 people
and dinner my department had 5 HUGE CRABS and more dishes at long beach for 11 people.
yesterday had a treat from Marg, whos our fun fellow colleague at taiwanese restaurant and we had 2 awfully chocolate cakes and 2 scoops of awfully chocolate hei ice cream which is simply the best chocolate ice cream ever.

tomorrow we are having lunch with another younger colleague at vivo and next week we are having an intern and supervisor xmas dinner at a german restaurant.

It is crazily sinful to stuff all the food. And i always suffer when there are food left on the table.

Colleague: hey there's one more crab claw/duck/chicken/beef/egg/ anythingonthetable!

another colleague: OH give it to the youngest!

*everyone looks at the interns*

Me: *pretend to be distracted/look for somewhere to hide my face*

female interns: no, we are full!

*everyone stares at me*

Colleague: Come on, you are the youngest guy intern, don't be shy.

Me: but I'm very full already!

Colleague: No, young man needs to grow!

the next thing it's on my plate and it happens ALL the time.

Till now i have no idea if its a good or a bad thing.

bz for IA

I will be rushing my IA logbook and report for 2 more weeks before i officially have time to blog about crabs and the other things that went into my tummy.
stay good for the time being!

eat and eat

so here's the thing.

it has not been easy for me, but it keeps rolling and rolling in my mind!
I think it just became worse because it is like venom, a parasite.
how i wish i can get my red and blue suit back.

Today we just got a treat from the company, Thai Accent at Vivo, which has the best thai food in Singapore. I am getting very fat from all the treating in the company.

Last week me and cousins went to Melben for crabs, which is superb because i haven been eating crabs for so long. I LOVE the crab thick beehoon soup and the oatmeal crab. Now i feel so crabby.

Tomorrow the company is having DnD at Mandarin Oriental.

Next week we are going bowling and seafood at long beach.

I think the company needs to provide a gym for fattening me.

I do not want to document this situation.

I see the true colours of bitches.

It shows who you can really trust and who really knows you.

You can choose to believe, hear and spread anything you want.

I dun even give a shit damn care

I know I have a clear conscience.

the lion

A lion had a splinter stuck in one of his paws and caused an injury.

A girl saw the injury and told the lion its gonna be okay.

She thinks she can treat the wound by using a stick to poke at the wound.

first time she did, the lion roared angrily at her.

second time she poked harder, the lion roared angrily again.

then she threw the stick at its face and went on to tell everyone that the lion tried to eat her when she wants to remove the splinter from its paws.

Now they recalled the incidents when the lion tried to eat somebody despite the fact that it drove away all the other wild animals that tried to eat them.

letgo

Right now I just want to find a place and hide inside forever. Keep me safe and secure from the world outside.

Its really tiring to stay in the state of complicated matters.

Yeah, I know I have to keep myself motivated like I always tell those who are giving up. But when it happens to myself I can't help but feel like letting go of everything and go away for good.

Actually there's nothing to let go.

I feel a need for something other than a break.

But I just don't know what I need.

dang

ok it wasnt that awkward after all. Everything's almost back to normal.

I have been thinking too much man.

I think I need a break.

Social Network

Truly inspiring. Mark Zuckerberg. Eduardo Saverin.
and Sean parker the bastard.

A lot of dialogues, sometimes you really need subtitles to understand what they'r saying and smart enough to jump from scene to scene.

Mark is truly a programming talent and he really deserves credit for changing our lives forever in a social network platform. Don't mess with Harvard students.

Do you know that Eduardo has been living in Singapore for 2 years already? One of the billionaire founder of facebook is among us and reportedly loves to club at Butter Factory. haha

what they want to hear

some people just want to hear what they wanna hear and filter other stuff out. Or be pissed because they hear what they don't want to hear.

It has happened too many times that my eyes can now roll 360 degrees. Just like a debtor meets the loanshark, blair waldorf meets chuck bass, spiderman meets green goblin. you know you cant escape so you keep avoiding but ultimately the ending has already been decided. Prolonging only lengthens the suffering.

Since dunno when I have this ability to almost sense or predict the future. I think it was army, I was bored one day that I saw the sky and predicted that it would rain heavily and then 5 minutes later a thunderstorm. then during field camp I predicted that it would drizzle for 5 minutes and stop and it really did! I lost the ability for while after ns but recently it surfaced again!

Every time before I lose something I somehow have the a feeling that i'll lose it. In Boston when I bought the weekly bus pass somehow I had the feeling that i'll lose it and really did. Same thing happened in Taiwan. A few weeks ago I knew I was going to lose something in my bag and it just dropped out. Somehow I knew, but can't prevent.

Somehow things have changed so much around me, lost and found, disappointment and satisfaction.

Forget it. Rely on myself.

margaritas

The korean boss wanted to give us a dinner treat as well as to entertain some global manager who came over so we made a reservation at Margaritas at Dempsey Hill.

I have no idea why the attention was on me the whole night.
As a korean, he known to be a super good drinker, like tons-of-alcohol-and-not-drunk kinda drinker. So he decides to train me because I was the only young guy there. I had stopped drinking for health reasons but for special occasions like this, there is no escaping.

He set a rule that we must finish our drinks before we can order our mains and teasing me that the bill will be on me if I don't drink more than him or something like that. I was so stressed and awkward that I had to go to the restroom to do yoga.

He's the boss, I'm just an intern. I have no choice. sadness.

BUT i managed to divert his attention by targeting his 17yo daughter! hahaha and everyone else suddenly became match-makers. haha

Well on the other side, the mains were SUPERB! The best mexican food i have eaten. Everything was so good except for the carbo-loading after-effects. The restaurant was also filled with people everywhere but services were still prompt and food came quickly. A really good place to dine in Dempsey. Prices were also reasonable, mostly below 25 but drinks costs more than the mains. ha. The final bill was $600+ for 8 people.

After that we went to his condo at orchard to chill with red wine and cheese (not for me, i had plain water, ha) and then some xbox and ipad. Hospitable as all koreans are, he loves hosting people according to the other people. We saw a passport photo of his daughter and he said she's coming in jan-feb!

haha *wink

Everything new

I was complaining at my ah ma's house that i do not have a room in my house the other week, and then this monday my mother said i can have her working room.

FINALLY
FINALLY
FINALLY

I never thought I would live to see this day or hear the golden words. I always though the room will be emptied the day i have my own apartment. All my friends who came my house before will know that I am like a ghost in the house. The whole house is my room.

Every time she says that i am very sceptical and then like 300 months later nothing happens. BUT THIS TIME, she took the initiative and even asked somebody to custom make my large wardrobe. (the idea was scrapped yesterday because it was too expensive).

But anyways, i have been designing my new room and searching for furniture with every opportunity i have. I want to custom my room exactly the way i want it. I am buying the furniture i like and ditch the old ones. I am going to repaint the walls and do a big drawing in my room myself. All within a budget. This is mission NEW ROOM.

I am so looking forward to it.

Speaking of new, my new water bottles just arrived at my doorstep.
well not exactly my doorstep because the postman handled it to my neighbour who passed it to me.

Totally cool stuff! I brought it to work the next day and everyone raved about it.
Its called Kor One Hydration Vessel from US. Ironman has it on his movie. Google it and check it out.

Kingdom Hearts week

hey blog! i just realised i had not updated you for 2 week! so here i am.

Ok the real reason for that: I have Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep in my PSP! i recently got it from LS and got hooked so there goes my weekends! haha

I have been busy at work the previous week because the supervisor is busy preparing for a meeting in HK, and i got to catch up with him during lunch!

yes, he's the one with two pair of twins,3 boys and 1 girl. I am so amazed how him and his wife managed it so well! It wasn't artificial, its all in the genes - he has triplet cousins. So i was thinking my mum's side had an affinity for twins too because my uncle had twins and i hang out with them quite a bit and theres no news of any twins coming out in the family, so i might be the next one in the genetic line.

YES!! SO COOL MAN!!

last sunday was yanjun's birthday party, the last of the gang and i am already sick of the place. We did an entertaining rendition of umbrella using the umbrella that i brought. The dance steps were impromptu btw. Also, I met the 28 girls at Strictly Pancakes, which was a good catch-up but not so appealing food. One visit will suffice.

and I've been hooked on youtube watching nigahiga, which is the most subscribed channel on youtube. It's this ultimate funny Japanese American who makes irresistably funny videos on youtube. Kevjumba is another funny asian american who has a super funny dad and he made a charity channel on youtube called jumbafund. Do check them out if u need some serious laughs and be warned: you will be addicted.

so yeah that almost sums up my 2 weeks, i'm occupied with Kingdom Hearts (more of addiction), youtube and outings.

so who wans to have twins with me?

wads to emo?

so whats there to emo about?

your exchange have been rejected coz you cant match your course, thats one week ago. look on the bright side! No sub degree winters to endure, no troublesome admission procedures, no huge lump of money spent, and you might get a chance at GSS at berkeley next summer! or you can go for Work n Travel! Cool.

your boss is one of the best you have worked with, no stressful job, only you stress yourself bcoz of the carelessness sometimes. Colleagues have been fine, you get to know more people during your one day trip to Jurong Island.

you hang out with your friends during weekends and even came over to your house to bake for 2 weekends! and you satisfied your craving for ramen at Marutama.

now, whats there to emo about?

its always this time of the year! nearing the end. its like PMS, except it comes once a year.

Life being too stale for too long causes emotions to be trapped and accumulated. and the best way to release is through singing!! like GLEE! I need to sing!! LALAA.
I need to watch movies too!

life is a journey of self discovery

after reaching the abyss of emo-tional spectrum i'm embraced in self delusions, make-beliefs and escapism with extreme limits.

- I'm mad over michelle phan that i wanna email/phone/sms/skype/flyovertolosangeles to find her. her voice is so captivating and her makeup videos are sweeeeeeeet!

- I'm also in love with the so ever ultimate cute KAT! who can ever resist that cuteness!

- I keep listening to the same glee songs over and over and over and over and over...

- I have an impulse to depart from the airport to somewhere else

- I have crazy travel plans

- Somehow I've lost my ability to shop anywhere, window shopping, online shopping, and my wardrobe had no addtitions for the past... 5 months! Wow what a record!

- today i was so hyper in office, kept talking and disturbing others. I cant hype down until i reach home

- I have not been following any fitness routines nor watching my diets ever since august.

- I have many impulsive spendings on food, resulting in many impulsive meals. 1 pint of bnj peanut buttercup finished in an episode of Gossip Girl

so which part of me is stable??

somebody please control me!

Parker luck

Previously on the episode of ernest's unlucky year 2010, he was mentally and physically preparing himself for at internship at Ford in Japan but Ford met with bad debts and closed down his position, so he remained in Singapore for the internship.

This time i applied for INSTEP because i cant do it on FYP year, so its the last semester that i can do it. I had an internal struggle of coming out with the finances, leaving friends, managing studies and courses, but well since its my last time to spend half a year overseas. i actually took quite long to mentally prepare myself to apply for it.

1. Sandiego State University, US
2. University of Waterloo, Canada

then i got rejected for both, a bit expected because i went for GSS previously. BUT i got through to a second round and my second choice was offered! Relief!

second round, there's only one remaining place for engineering in University of Waterloo so i personally went down to hand in the form. i saw 2 indians way in front of me in the queue and secretly confirmed that they'r from engineering too.

I went into the room, handed in the form and saw her ticking beside University of Waterloo and i saw another tick beside mine. then she asked me wad's my gpa and wrote down beside my tick and i saw again, beside the first tick, an alarming "4.6" and i walk out of the room thinking 'good game'.

A third round was offered to me again, this time there were nothing much i wanted left. I wanted to give up at first but thinking that this is my last chance and i had done so much effort in course matching all that, i searched for a list of universities i could apply to.

China, India, Czech, Taiwan, Sweden.

SWEDEN! highest course matching! Being sceptical and no clue about the country, i had to be mentally prepared for the culture, finances and most importantly the sub degree climate.

After researching more about the country, i went to their respective university websites to find out more about the reputation, student life, facilities and experiences. i googled and read some pretty interesting stories like how the sun sets at 2pm and rises at 4am, and how it can freeze up to -20 and see the northern lights just over the city town. ok, not bad except for the climate, just need some more clothes.

course matching...and then.. nothing. most courses i needed to take ain't offered in this coming semester for almost all of the universities. the most important part of the exchange is to clear your modules, which i cant coz i cant match enough courses.

Oh well. so much effort and mental roller coaster went down to nothing, just like previous time.
What can i do, i believed in working hard to make something work but in these situations its not like i hold the remote control to my own fate. its just a matter of luck.

Just like how peter parker has his small victories overshadowed by crush demoralising setbacks, i think i have the same Parker Luck.

Lewis Hamilton

I just took part in a quiz in the company website and won a ticket to an F1 event to see Lewis Hamilton!

It's not the F1 race (i dun think they will ever give that out), just a charity event that my company organised because we are the sponsor of Lewis's vodafone maclaren mercedes team.

The event was a simple dragonboat race at Singapore River. Its quite a big but low-key event, we had a F1 goodie bag, buffet lunch and Lewis was there to participate in the race. He chose to be the drummer, he said he want to paddle in the future. ha i hope i have a chance to see that again.

FYI, this guy is the youngest F1 world champion at 22 years old in 2008, before that he won a lot more races. He's one of the most talented and watched-after racers this generation and already earned enough money to last a few lifetimes. I am still struggling with life, school and work at 23 and did not even win any national champion before.

Competitive male ego eat me up please.

anyway, I was so close to him, i had a chance to get his autograph on this F1 book but i forgot to bring a marker. -_- to the max........ there goes my chance to earn $200 on ebay.

The F1 season is heating up this weekend! Adam Lambert is coming to perform, and MARIAH CAREY!!! CAN U BELIEVE IT??? MARIAH CAREY IS COMING!!! I SO WANNA GO WATCH but i am still a poor working student. (spell: no money)

Hais. I hope I can become Lewis Hamilton. probably next lifetime. or the next. or the next.

Eason weekend

Friday evening i had Billy Bombers at JP and WQ had 50% discount voucher so we ate like $80 worht of food for 3 person. and then, they gave us another 50% voucher. ($30 off for $60 spending).. so means i have to go back again. -_-

ok so i finally got my headphones!! main purpose is to watch GlEE on my PSP and watch movies on my lappie! Nice right.

The night hadnt ended! Went to 7th Heaven for some ice cream with huat. Blackforest ice cream is sooo chocolatey and rummy!! but tad expensive and isolated shop though.
and then, just randomly picked up another friend who happens to be out and stays in the west too. What a night!

The next day is Eason Chen's concert, with Tanya Chua as a guest performer and I kinda like his live performance. He really has a good singing voice! i think it related to their cantonese heritage, most cantonese male singers have different voice layers which can express their emotions in the song. Cool. and ate macdonald's after that.

Sunday, got a haircut, did my logbook but didnt complete and went running, read my comics that are accumulating, rested a bit.
thats all!

Tuesday, September 14, 2010

Everytime I look at the logbook icon on my desktop i want to faint...

Work is already so hectic and its such a chore to repeat everything you had done every 2 weeks!

and i'm only halfway through the first entry, which is the longest.
second entry lacks pictures,
third entry still not complete,
AND i have to write the forth entry this weekend!!!

AND I AM SUPPOSED TO MEET MY PROFESSOR WITH MY FIFTH ENTRY!!!!

ARHHHHHH!!!!!!

can i just show him my blog entries? haha

X new year

Everytime i meet my cousins it feels like Chinese New Year, but this time round its not Chinese. I tot i'll be bored to bits but if you have both active cousins and brain activties, nothing is boring and finally we had more than enough drivers and cars! For the moment, I almsot forgot whats work and study, like they didnt exist in my dictionary.

Spent the whole afternoon with the aunties buying mooncakes, teabreaks and discussing 台湾龙卷风 (i almost died), huge dinner at home and then at night I drove the kids teenagers out for some fun. Wanted to catch a midnight movie but it was all sold out, and then we went for nice bubble tea and lots of street-side supper.

Saturday morning we had booked 2 tables to Bah Kut Teh at Kota Tinggi, a 30 min ride and it was like in the middle of the highway, in the middle of the forest and crowded with people in a saturday morning!! It's at such an unbelievable location and people can still make their way there. The taste is unbelievable too. It's one of the best Bah Kut Teh i've eaten. Its not the peppery kind, but the chinese herb kind which makes a fantasic soup base, a generous portion of ribs and meat, pig intestine and mushroom. Its was MMMMMMMMMMMMMPPHHH heavenly! ok my saliva's dripping just thinking about it.

and then it was all eating and walking all around, and then at night the main-purpose of the trip: the party. It was somebody's birthday (one of our inifinite family friends).

Surprisingly its was a smooth ride to and fro, no jams across the borders with only slight rain.

As the adults are comparing Singapore and Country X, my analytical mind came online subconciously.

After listening to all of my relatives and friends, i can only conclude, to do well and get rich in Country X, you only have a few options. If you are race X, become a government officer. If you are Chinese, one way is to make an honest living in Singapore, another is to gain connections and do illegal jobs. There is absolutely no way to get rich without doing one illegal job or another in this kind of political scene. I have too many live examples.

Whereas in our country where nothing illegal is tolerated, the law will be knocking on your doors the second something is amiss. Famous examples: Sunshine empire, a certain City Church, the NKF saga. Corruption is not heard of, because they do it legally.

I read on the discussion section in the papers in Country X, some of them didnt like the elitist society and high cost of living here. I do have to agree on the elitist society where our democratic society rewards those with better results. It makes sense - the ones with better brains/talent/abilty yield better.
For high cost of living, its how you look at it. Off-the-roof property and transport prices, rising cost of public transport and food, those are crazy and i really hate that. But hey, education, property is heavily subsized to help the not-so-well-off, GST packages, strong economy and eco-friendly environment are some of the advantages derived from them. In any case, there's always the neighbouring places to avoid the high costs. haha.

Well, of cause i'll choose here anytime. I see safety as a very important factor. who want to fear losing your life when you walk on the streets? who likes to fear burglars in your every night? Education and transport is definitely better here too. I'm not being patriotic but sometimes i think i'm more fortunate than some of them and how my life would have been if i wasnt born here.

HR weekend

Okay i'm going away to visit relatives at JB this long Hari Raya wkend.

I hope there's good fun, food and entertainment!

Michelle Phan

Ever since I discovered the existance of this girl on youtube by accident yesterday, I've been watching her videos even though I'm not interested in all the make-up stuff and i've been infactuated with her! Her voice is just so mesmorising, clean and pure!

So as a highly trained military intelligence recon, i gathered information about her in the internet. and i highly doubt any guy would know about her or become her fan, therefore increasing my chances of being known to her and making contact, unlike the far-impossible Taylor Swift.

Top 10 reasons why Michelle Phan should be my girlfriend

1. We are not attached
2. We are both Asians (she's Vietnamese American)
3. We came from similar family backgrounds
4. We are of the same age (born in 1987)
5. We are love video games and comic books (yes she openly declared that)
6. We are intellectually and characteristically matched.
7. We are not bad looking
8. We have stable career path
9. I am an engineer (refer to the article "why girls should marry engineers)
10. We love to work abroad

so now the problem is.. how do i get to know her?!?! she's so busy flying around, working, i do not have her non-business-related email and ultimately, its hard to maintain a LTR. This is saddening. Well, fate has its own ways.

In the meantime, check out her Perfume video!

the korean boss

My korean boss was posted to Singapore for 9 years already, and have been working in EM for a long time.

He was married at age 23, his son is currently studying in US and his daughter and wife is in Seoul and flies over regularly.

His previous house was in Bukit Timah, a bunglow, 3 storeys with 7 bedrooms. He had 7 fridges in the house and when he gave away some to his friends and put the remaining on the first floor, he said it was troublesome because he had to walk down to the first floor just to get drinks.

He lives in a condominium in Orchard Road, just behind Shangri-la hotel and drives to work everyday. He says if we like korean ramen he would invite us to his house and his wife would cook for us.

When we lunch together, he always say that he dun understand why i dont have a girlfriend because he thinks I am nice and handsome and would introduce his daughter to me if she isnt attached. I will always joke that I'll be waiting.

heh. i'm just kidding.

hot yoga again

So i went for hot yoga again, after a very long hiatus.

It was torturous but awesome after that!
The stretching, the holding, the superman poses, i feel so stretched after a few months of office work!

I've learn some new challenging poses to try out at home, for example from a push-up postion, straighten your hands, slowly lift up left leg and lift right hand to hold your left toe. just imagine that. hahah

I had a super deep sleep at night and the next morning my entire body joints cracked like my first yoga session.
ultimate shiok feeling!

The office

every morning i step into the intern's corner, my greetings comes first: Morning!, then comes 3 female voices in unison: Morning!
and i feel like the Charlie from Charlie's Angels. haha. except the angels part.
(did i mention i was the only guy in the intern's corner?)

Our meeting room is called the Huddle room, and yesterday afternoon jazreel had nothing to do, she used her long pink scarf to seduce yi chian, and said she wans to huddle with dixon in the huddle room. HAHA. (dixon is her office crush).

During lunch, we forgot to call sarvesh for lunch again, but only jazreel had his number, so we asked her to call him and she said: if I have Sarvesh's number means i have to call him everyday, then i have police's number means i have to call police everyday?

Ultimate quote of the year.

lately

so how's work lately?

well, pretty much the same. no routine work definitely.
work place is cold, boss's away for the week. nothing much.

so how's life lately?

yea i know i haven't been blogging much. i hope i can still revive the blogging spirit, coz the monitor is what i am facing for 8 hours a day and i certainly want a change in view when i get home.
Usual weekends means hanging out with friends, exchanging what i've earn in the past week into frivalous enjoyment.

so how's school lately?

yes my internship report and logbook. Procrastination is my enemy. Enuff said.
I have also been researching on schools to go for exchange next semester, either for one term or for next summer which is both cool for me. The only concern is the getting-it part.

observe

somebody asks me a simple question while chatting.

"Are you a refined person?"

and it sets me thinking, why some people love to ask these sort of stupid and rhetorical questions.

for example,
Somebody asks you, " Are you a humble person?"

You don't know what to answer because
If you answer yes, it shows that you are actually not.
If you answer no, you are also not.

So which answer does the asker expects?

Its akin to asking Yanzi if she's a good singer, or Meryl Streep if she's a good actress.

DUH, CAPTAIN OBVIOUS!

firstly, you don't ask a person about himself, you should OBSERVE it yourself!!
And secondly, if you do that, it just means that you are either superficially retarded or plain lazy to observe.

I mean, its ok to ask them about their hobbies or physcial stuff, but not personality or character. Like you can ask me if i like spiderman (of coz i'll shout yes) or if i am a techie but not if i am a cheerful person or i am a humble person.

I know some people would LOVE these kind of questions because they can say that they are very cheerful but in fact they emo all the time. These are people who loves attention. For kids: ok. For young adults: immature.

OBSERVE, MAN!

at Exxon

As compared to fast-moving bank stint, 2 weeks into work here is rather relaxing.

Banks make deals everyday so they have to be processed every single day. No matter how many there are and how difficult they can be, they are still routine. Marketing, on the other hand, takes up more time and brainpower mainly because of its complexity and the ever changing environment.

As an engineer, i felt quite weird doing marketing. It is not physical and you can't confirm the final product or results, for example making a laptop consists of many processes and parts but the end product is still physical and touchable. It's just graphs, a lot of talkings and assumptions, data, information, but no end results.
It's like zero gravity, nothing for support or hold things down, only plain imagination.

Well, thats my jobscope and at least i have unrestricted internet!

one thing i can't get used to is the safety policy. Do you know that...
you will be fined $40 if you climb the stairs without holding the rails?
you can't fill your cup more than 80% full coz you might spill it?
you must knock on the toilet doors before entering because somebody might be at the other side?
there are safety mirrors all around corners?
you can't hold a cup and turn your chair at the same time?

yups. Strict Rules just like the army.

activiteswithfriends

My first trip to the Bird Park ever! yea i know, there is always a first time rite?

The birds are super cute! I really want a pet Owl and Toucan!!
Any takers for my birthday present?

My darling Pear is back for Sera's birthday party!

watched Salt with the guys

Quite a nice action movie, some scenes are not stable and messy and causes motion sickeness. Angelina's performance was amazingly fantastic, especially her eyes. you can't tell what her eyes are saying but you can tell her expressions. The plot's not bad, just that the filming was a bit amateur. Overall a great summer action movie.

Next up: Airbender!

JAY CHOU WORLD TOUR LIVE 2010

The tickets were pre-released for OCBC card holders and they were sold out in 2 hours, so they had to arrange for an additional day for the concert, and tickets were sold out in 40 minutes.

That is the power of Jay Chou.

Honestly I just wanted to see how his concert will sound like and i totally didn't expect it to be that impressive!!!

the 3D effects were so good, that we couldn't tell between the real and fakes!!
That is really impressive considered we have watched so many 3D concerts and this is the best i've ever seen.

There was this flat screen with a window in which he was in it and all of us thought it was fake but it was the actual person! and then the surroundings changes around him. Another time was, i think, he was walking on a treadmill and the backround zooming out, creating an illusion that he's walking out of a castle!

Although half of the concert were his new songs which i haven heard, and his singing wasn't 'ah mei' level, the stage effects, dancing, live music and his olddies are so well coodinated altogether and made the whole concert world class and every ticket should have worth more.

He can really perform and spread his charm to the audience-could also be due to his accumulated past experiences. Yanzi went to watch and sat beside his mum and grandma, and Jay sang Yan Lei Cheng Shi for her.

He's got the moves! Shuang jie gun for the last song, he left us hanging and wanting more and more, including me. haha

This concert is the BOMB! The BEST concert i've ever been to. Yet.

the masterchef I

Pan-fried Norwegian Salmon with garden herbs and scrambled eggs.

All you need:
Norwegian Salmon
Corn flour
Extra Virgin Olive Oil or any other veg oil
A little bit of salt
Some garden herbs
2 eggs

1. Pick out the bones in the Salmon and season with corn flour, salt and garden herbs.

2. Using small fire, first pan fry the side without the skin because the skin gets cooked more easily than the fish itself. you can see the progress of the frying by looking at the side, where the red portion turns into flaky pink salmon. The whole process takes about a few minutes.

3. Turn the salmon to cook both sides for a few minutes each, and lastly to the part with the skin. The other side should appear crispy brown and pink like this. Notice the difference in colour between the cooked and uncooked side?

4. The perfect salmon should look like this, crispy brown on the outside.

5. Fry scrambled eggs and serve.

ok i was too hungry that i just ate it on the counter. Perfect! The whole salmon was cooked as compared to the last time i cooked. Pink and moist in the inside, crispy on the outside. The highlight is the skin! Soooo crispy.

Total ingredients cost: $5.70 for the salmon at NTUC, all others taken from the fridge.
Taste: Better than restaurant quality
Satisfaction: Priceless

Last day at HSBC

Thursday 22-July-2010 adds another job experience to my resume, and my last day at HSBC.

I could say this was one of the best job experience i had, and closer to what i hoped to achieve in a bank. It is more of an internship rather than a temp job though.

Basically I'm doing forfaiting, which is a special and niche kind of trading dealing with imports and exports with different kind of financing and investing. It's a very small department but we earn millions everyday. YES, EVERYDAY. scary huh. I'm supporting the frontline by preparing the documents for the bank and investors while the marketing side make deals, so my job is on the spot everyday, cant be delayed or else there will be trouble.

Its wrong to stereotype bank cultures because working culture depends on your type of work, office and colleagues. I'm fortunate to be in this environment where most of my colleagues are mothers so i get very well taken care of. haha. They are like a big family and not afraid to speak out freely, therefore there are no office politics at all.

Really rare or unheard of NO, ZERO, NONE office politics in the office, perhaps because all of them has been working for more than 20 years and most of them are really smart mothers. Politics are for immature and childish bitches.

As usual, desk-bound jobs is boring after while and it happened after i've learnt everything within a month, it became quite routine and i finished my work so fast that i always had nothing to do 1 or 2 hours in betweens and before knock off. After a month i told myself i'm never going to get a desk-bound job which involves staring at the computer everyday for long hours i.e. bank jobs . Well, its just a temporary, don't expect too exciting stuff.

Over these two months i had been involved in quite a few company eating events and very well fed. The first few days when i came in our boss always buys teatime snacks, next is karen's farewell when we had a mini party in the office, then there was this random lunch at Raffles Hotel Royal China Restaurant, lastly my (sort of) farewell party with many desserts and sweets. I was quite shocked they were observant about my eating habits, for example they know that i like sweet stuff and not dry pastries. Reason: you know, caring mothers. One of the reasons why i became fatter.

oh and i had rendezvous with many many of my friends working in the area!!! liwen, hiang, reika, liujun, huiyu, reuben, bernice, santek and peixuan! My lunchplace never changes at Golden Shoe, cheap and good, the best chicken rice i've eaten in Singapore is found there. I miss my Dark Chocolate Mint 100% FAT-FREE frozen yoghurt and my rasin cream bread beside it!!! Luckily reuben, huiyu and me ate everything before i left. hee.

Contacts and networking are very important. haha my boss actually said he'll welcome me back after i graduate in 2 years time, this time i hope i'll do the marketing part.

oh wells, who know what the future holds for me.

Now my future lies in Exxonmobil.

Inception

Complex storyline but simple enough for the general audience to understand.
Simple characters but deep character development throughout the story.
Good moving pictures and better connection between scenes.
Action, Fantasy, Comedy, Adventure, Romance, everything you want in a film,
Inception easily wins the movie of the year from me!

Another winner from Christopher Nolan, the entire story plot is so original and captivating, it almost made me lose my mind while watching! It seemed so real that it kinda freaked me out when I actually had to convince myself that I wasn't in a dream several times during the movie.
Its inception within inception, planting an idea into the audience subconciously through the movie, which is dangerous for some.

Very good acting by Ellen Page and Joseph Gordon Levitt! Especially the anti gravity coridoor scene when he had to move around and do stuff. ha

While the CGI looks fake at times and the ending is a little disturbing, i can't wait for another great film by Chris Nolan! Batman 3!!

Inception is a real must-watch this summer!!!

what the fish!

one. you make a mistake and you just say oops and get away with it? because of your mistake it multiplies the loss by 4 times do you know that?? freaking 4 times!!! and what? you just escape by treating me to what, tau huay? you are the ultimate winner. just at least be responsible and offer to mayb cover a little of the loss with your profit. and now i am paying for your mistake while you earn money from it? ultimate winner. how am i going to explain now? no need to explain ok. i cover everything. i absorb all the loss ok. and you dun have to pay or do anything. i pay for everything. i pay for you mistakes. fine. ok? i see how you still have the conscience to get it from me.

two. freaking hell. you dunno whats going on you just shut your trap. i already told you i am not to be messed with and you continue to poke the lion. another ultimate winner. what, you think you are so smart? you know everything? do you know the whole story? you think i like to pay for other's mistakes? why not you pay for me then? you think the loss is very little? did you fail your maths? you failed your maths and you dare to tell me i am throwing a fit? are you freaking kidding me? so? do i throw fits when i'm driving around? you want me to charge fares? you think petrol falls from the sky? you think i am so damn free? you think its easy? come on, just make use of me ok? just take advantage of me everytime! all the way! dont let loose! take everything ok! i see how you can still be so smart without me.

three. what? pissed off because i foresee something? so freaking ridiculous! i dun even mean anything and you are pissed? you think i always do that? YOU are the one who always do that. ridiculous mood swings. such a small matter that dont even mean anything to me. fine. be pissed for the rest of your life.

some Marvel-ous news

1. Sony pictures is rebooting the Spiderman series, and the new Peter Parker is..........
Ernest Soh! ok just kidding.
It's an British actor Andrew Garfield, and the director Marc Webb (remember 500 days of summer?) and so it should be almost on par with Sam Raimi's!
and no, they did not recruit him because of the 'Webb'.

2. Marvel posted on its facebook fan page recruiting interns!!!! YESS!!!!!!!
Its every comic boy's dream to intern at Marvel, be the first to read all Marvel comics before its published and most importantly, have Spiderman surround you all day.
Its also said that Marvel recruits most of its intern for employment!

Unfortunately, its non-paying, located in New York and most likely millions are going to apply, AND i only quality as Editorial Operations and Print Production intern.
Oh plus i already have an intern company. Bummer.

check out the website:
http://marvel.com/company/index.htm?sub=careers_current.htm

3. San Diego Comic Convention aka Comic-Con 2010 is gonna start from 22-25 July 2010 and ticket are long sold out.
New York Comic-Con starts from 8-10 October 2010 and tickets are on sale now. Guess who are the guests?

The legend himself Stan Lee, John Romita Sr and John Romita Jr!! 3 of the best writers of Spiderman appearing for autographs!!! TRIPLE OMG!!!! Wished i could be there.

Both Comic-Cons are the almost the largest conventions in US. Its my dream to go to at least one in my entire life, just for the fanboy experience. Hm.. maybe for grad trip or something.

So meanwhile i'm stuck here, the Singapore Comic-con is the best I can get, which is sometime in December.

but they say

I am drowning myself in the emo ocean.

I still can't get over it.

But they say: Well, at least you've got E, which is a good company.

Yes, E is a good place for attachment but its not my first choice.

It's like you are planning to climb the tallest mountain in the world, Mount Everest and somebody decided to sponsor you but sudden changes in the weather, the plane can't take off so you have to climb the Bukit Timah hill instead.

But they say: Well, at least its the tallest hill in Singapore.

Now a piece of me cracks when i hear F or J.

How to torture yourself on a Sunday.

Step 1: Drink Koi at the new outlet at llumna as an appetiser

Step 2: Go to Lena's Hi-tea Dessert Buffet at Bugis junction

Step 3: Indulge in the Chocolate and Cheese Fondue.

Step 4: Overdose in eggs, pancakes and other sweet stuff.

Step 5: Finish up with very good ice-cream! and feel so full after that.

Step 6: Feel the slab of fats on your tummy grow overnight and remain guilty for the enormous calorie intake in one day that you will only eat healthy food for the rest of the week.

Conclusion: No more pancakes, eggs and desserts until i expend the excess calories by running or swimming, which i highly doubt i'll have time after work.

Tug-o-War

Team H vs Team E

It looks like Team H is initiating the pull while Team E joins the tug.

Earlier Team H has leader advantage, Team E intends to pull the the midpoint towards their side for 3 days but Team H gets the lead and pulls back after 2 days.

Now people at the end of each team are going to leave at the same time, Team E intends to forcefully tug towards them for 5 days before time runs out but Team H doesn't seem to let go and tried to extend the timing but to no avail.

While time is running out, the tug-o-war continues.
Poor rope.

bombings

Well work at HSBC is complicating and easy. Complicating because it involves very confusing steps and easy because they don't let me handle too complicated stuff, so i'm stuck with filings and scannings and printings. sounds easy yeah?

The long weekend involves several bombings.

It has been a long time since i went to town and this time round with yy and wq to replenish my office clothes supply at Uniqlo at 313, and not forgetting the waffles at Marvelous cream (we had 2 each). Dinner's ramen at Tampopo at taka and supper at Ion, with many Jap snacks and Happy Lemon!

Nando's chicken at bugis the following day for lunch, ah chew for dessert and then our current fav pastime: L4D 2. haha

All these constitutes my weekend Money Bombing. One whole week's salary all returned to the economy in a weekend and mayb a little deficit. haha. Indirectly, all the food galores becomes Calorie Bombing and i have not been exercising for the past week because of work.
Thirdly is the Internship Bombing, which i refuse to accept the fact and i believe i can change it thus i'm going to do something about it.

Smallville

This is a really amazing version of a modern Green Arrow, from Smallville

I was a smallville fan in high school but the show timing changed so i stopped, until a few days ago Zhengnian told me Green Arrow joined in as well as Martian Manhunter, the Flash, Aquaman and other DC comic characters and a TV film featured Hawkman, Dr Fate and Star Sprangled Kid.

I went on a Smallville marathon to catch up on almost everything and its so fabulously good! All the new DC heroes as well as villians like Doomsday, Zod, Bizarre Clark appeared and Green Arrow aka Oliver Queen became a regular.

Its an incredible feat to make a live action show based on a modern superman and kept running for 9 seasons! and i still haven't got enough of it. Amazing script, storyline, character development and sometimes a little lousy CGI, its the best show for a comic fanboy like me.

Actually the same team did one more based on Aquaman and the pilot episode was the no 1 downloaded show on itunes but i'm not sure why they didn't continue on that.
I sure hope they decide to do one on the amazing life of Peter Parker!

so what is confirmed in the holidays....

I figured instead of wasting my time during this 2 months holiday i might as well get out of the house and do something productive because for the past week i've been rotting my life away at home with a limited supply of allowance... and alas!

i got a job at HSBC for 2 months exactly! Just a temporary one and because banks pay the most for temp jobs. Guess i'm becoming an office guy at raffles place again.. recall the raffles experience: tissue paper/umbrella/newspapers to 'chop' lunch table.

My place at Exxonmobil is confirmed.. that is if i can accept them. I had the interview in the morning then they sent me the confirmation email like 1 hour later and luckily i got the department i wanted.
I still have another pending so until then, i have one last interview which will pretty much settle everything for next semester.

no more lying in bed until 11am, hello peak hour train rides and peak hour lunchtimes.
