Fridays in Shanghai

The locals don't really have the concept of TGIF, which means end work early on Friday and go hang out at a pub for some ice cold beer.

Most beer places are filled with lao wais like myself, and I don't really have friends who enjoy a beer night. Maybe only wine or cocktail night.

I kinda miss hanging out with the boys in Korea, cold beer and fried chicken. Wow.

Office freebies

There was a major clearing of stocks in my office because we are moving to the next building so there were a lot of unwanted stuff under dust. We claimed it as our own.

Oral B Electric Toothbrush
A box of 24 colours nail polish
A set of facial masks
A tumblr
A pair of wristbands
A mini-fan

In addition, I'm getting Bloomberg and Business Review fortnightly because the president has no time to read them and they were in English. There was a cupboard of English books that just became my personal library because nobody reads them.

Routine

It had become a routine:

Wake up
Apple for breakfast
Work
Home
Gym
TV
A cup of honey
Brush teeth
Sleep
Repeat

All for the sake for losing weight and fats in preparation for CNY!

Air Tickets are really expensive and SIA is already out. No choice but to take China Eastern back for a week, then back here again... I hope this year's CNY will be good.

when somebody annoys you

What's the point of being angry or pissed or any negative emotions because of somebody?

What's the point of taking revenge on them by bitching behind people or on your blog and spark an invisible war?

You only waste your time, energy and life thinking about it or planning a revenge. What for waste your life?

Live better than them!
And let them realise that you are actually leading a better or more exciting life than theirs!

That is the best revenge.

Went back to Singapore

The Saturday that I went back, I managed to shock the guys and got some kick and gifts out of it. Haha. But I didn't get them to give me Lego la.
Watched Looper, which was quite a good movie but after which we analysed a little and discover a major flaw in the storyline. Dinner at Fish & Co, pretty relieved for good fish!! I havent had good seafood for a longgg while.

All those times I went to work during the weekdays, I would end up going JP library to borrow comics. I do miss comics but I'm quite relieved that I managed to complete all the new comics before I fly back! Achievement unlocked.

Friday
Ate Nougatine at Canele which I really missed and went shopping around city hall for a while.

Saturday
Walked around orchard the whole day, ate chilli crab treated by jj and wq who got a small raise, bought spiderman lego, ate froyo and drank beer with the guys. woo hoo! I just love seafood.

Sunday
Was in an epic state of rush. Went to ah ma house in the morning, steamboat with the cousins while uncovering some very ancient photos and our fascination with Ninja Turtles. Dinner at home and a very quick dessert at Upper Thomson with the OG28 gang and reached home at 10.45 for a quick packing and left home at 11pm for the 1am flight. Haha really made full use of my last day.

I hate taking night flights on SQ because there are too many good movies not to miss. argh.
and that Monday morning I concussed in bed.

HP to ASUS

It has been 4 years since I bought my first laptop, the HP Tx2028 for $699 in conjuction with a starhub promotion.

It was one of the first tablet laptops although I didn't really make use of the tablet function. It broke down on the first year, right before my first exam of that semester and coincidentally I got my best grades then. Haha. Luckily it was on warranty but it broke down again 2 years later and it cost me $257 to repair.

One year later, after enduring so much travelling, it broke down again the first thing I switched it on in Singapore. Well at least I'm glad it didn't break down in Shanghai, or else I wouldn't have known what to do. I guess it has something to do with difference in climate, the humidity or temperature or it could be the voltage difference which put a strain on the laptop.

It was the motherboard, said the pc repair shop, and it will cost ~$250 to repair. She also adviced against it because it was really too old, and I sort of agree.

It is time for a new laptop to fit into my new life.

A speed comparison with the latest laptops, ASUS proved to have the best durability so I narrowed down to this.

The ultrabook with an optical drive, the super slim Asus S46CM

$1298 with 2 years warranty, free wireless mouse, free wired mouse and laptop bag.
Running on Windows 7, with a $17.99 upgrade to Windows 8.

So far it has served me very well, really fast and responsive, light and portable. The only thing I didn't like are the pre-installed Asus softwares which are annoying. Other than that, I'm happy with the price for an intel core i7 ultrabook.

so.. what should I do with my old laptop? I took out the hard disk to transfer my files but the rest of the parts are still working properly except for the motherboard. Hm....

Xi Tang

It was an unexpectedly fun trip to Xi Tang today.

I was quite reluctant to go at first because of the culture gap but it turned out better than I have expected, talking to one of my good friend Tony.

Woke up at 6.50am, even earlier than usual work time, to get to the bus station at South Station before 8am. A 1 hour journey took us to Xi Tang and we walked around the ancient town which was well preserved, lunched, tea-breaked at the postcard cafe and back again. Dinner at some steamboat place and there we are.

Pictures galore!

Such a crazy week for me, so much work to do and next week will be crazier.
I guess I should adjust myself to get used to it.
